Boston, MA — September 14, 2009 — The O Campaign Foundation partnered up with Elevation Theory (ET) and the UN Association to launch "Playing for the Cure," held at the Good Life Bar in Boston, Sept 23 from 7-11pm. ET is a non-profit music and outreach group. The event was a continuation of The O Campaign's "Become the Cure (BTC)" series which was formulated at Harvard Business School earlier this year and launched in San Francisco, CA on April 25th, 2009.

Elevation Theory (ET) operated on the premise of “taking you on a musical journey” at their debut as a non-profit and band. Based in Boston, ET is a soul/pop/R&B band that also functions as a non-profit, which will be joining forces with The O Campaign for Cancer Prevention and the U.N. Association of the National Capital Area (UNA-NCA) to raise funds to support innovative cancer research initiatives and UNA-NCA global betterment initiatives.

Drummer and visionary Kirjuan Freeman dreamt of bringing back a sense of unity and growth that was seen in bands like Earth, Wind, and Fire and the Beatles. Freeman founded ET on the principles of bringing musicians together that are committed to going beyond the normal formalities of today’s music. Freeman is not just trying to build another band, but instead his vision utilizes the band as an example of massive community outreach through music. As a non-profit, ET strives to educate the music community on the ideal fundamentals of what it takes to make an affect in your local area.  Showing them how important it is to get your community involved in your music and how they can help expand your music and artistic growth by giving the individuals tangible knowledge on successful start-up tips.

The O Campaign is a non-profit campaign that works with the public, academia, corporations, and institutions in effort to efficiently channel resources for high-paced development of cutting-edge research in cancer prevention and research. The O Campaign is an established cause with over 4.9 million members on its Facebook page, and has raised over $100,000 for Brigham Women's Hospital.

A Director of The O Campaign Foundation, Mr. Joseph James Chung, flew into Boston from Seoul, South Korea to speak at the event, bringing light to advances being made at the Broad Institute in order to "coax" cancer cells to grow into normalized cells and the importance of linking Eastern and Western medicine in a search for the cure.

Alongside cancer research and prevention in Boston, ET supports the global principles and vital work of the United Nations, including the United Nations Millennium Goals of universal education for all, gender equity, child health, maternal health, environmental sustainability, global partnership, and the end of fight poverty and HIV/AIDS.

Elevation Theory is a performing arts non-profit. We are band that also functions as a non-profit by giving back through music. E.T. currently performs every Thursday at Wally's Jazz Cafe as one of the first bands to feature vocalists, and is currently working on developing a Youth Educational Week Long Workshop in efforts to reach out to the youth. E.T. is a band that exemplifies unity, growth, and giving back.
